Application of Theories: Atypical Essay Theory

Post by Linnypig »

Hi,
I am about to start TAQ2 part 2: "For the topics in atypical psychology (schizophrenia or depression), choose a theory and evaluate it using studies and evaluations to support your answer".

I am a little confused whether this means I should evaluate an entire approach in general (biological, cognitive, etc) or if I should choose a specific theory / study within one of these approaches and evaluate that?

My tutor is away this week so I thought I would try asking someone here.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi

You chose an approach in general and evaluate it. (Example you could chose biological for schizophrenia or depression), then use evidence to support it, evidence to contradict it and then a conclusion.

Good luck

Hiya, I'm a little stuck on this, how did you get on?. Is it asking me to, for example, evaluate the biological approach to depression? :eh:

Hi Shazza

What you need to di is evaluate depression then you need to choose one explanation of depression to evaluate. So you need to look at studies - genetic/neurochemical/brain structure/cognitive explanation/behaviourist explanation/psychodynamic explanation!
Consider the strengths and weaknesses of studies.

Hope this helps.
