Hi,

For these types of questions it is important to realise that you just take them as simple sums according to the order of calculations or Bidmas.

So for part e) we have 1 2/3 + 7/8 - 3/4

Using the order of calculations we would do the addition first and then the subtraction. So we do

1 2/3 + 7/8 first

This is the same as 5/3 + 7/8

We need a common denominator so we use 24 here

5/3 = 40/24 and

7/8 = 21/24

So 5/3 + 7/8 = 61/24

Now we do the subtraction so we have 61/24 - 3/4

Again we need a common denominator so we use 24

3/4 = 18/24

Now we have 61/24 - 18/24 = 43/24 which simplifies to 1 19/24

Hope this helps you,

Yvonne
